Area InfoRoatan / Bay IslandsClick for map And here is a more detailed mapThe three Bay Islands, Roatan, Guanaja and Utila are located approximately 31 mi (50km) off the north coast of Honduras and are a continuation of the second largest reef system in the world, the Great Western Barrier Reef. The largest of these islands, Roatan, distinguishes itself with it's spectacular beauty, friendly islanders and world class snorkeling and scuba diving sites! With it's soft white beaches, warm azure waters and swaying palms, you'll feel as if you've walked straight into a postcard! On Roatan, your options are endless and varied. You may choose to relax and read a great book by the beach, take a scenic hike, or for a more adventurous experience, you can arrange a boating excursion to one of the area's truly captivating keys such as Cayos Cochinos. The area also boasts "island style" miniature golf, a butterfly park, museum, carambola botanical gardens and massage therapy. Other exciting island activities include island tours by boat or car, fishing excursions, videotaped dolphin encounters, an iguana farm,a bird park and more! With a richly diverse history, including evidence of early Papayan Indian settlement and then later pirate occupation by the English, French and Dutch in the 1500's, Roatan in many ways is still more reflective of England and the US than of the Honduran mainland. Thus, it is no surprise that a richly Caribbean version of English is the main language. If you choose to come to this island paradise we would be delighted to put you in contact with the agencies we have found to offer the best fares. Direct flights are available from the US. Additionally, we can arrange for airport transfers once you arrive.
